Amy Askin
“I bring empathy, persistence, and a strong sense of justice to my practice.”
Meet Amy Askin
Amy Askin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Boston University and her Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law. While at Santa Clara Law, Amy participated in the International Human Rights Clinic, Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, and ABA Negotiation Competition. She also served as Managing Technical Editor of the Santa Clara Journal of International Law and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the law school newspaper.
Before joining Garelick Family Law, Amy practiced municipal law and served as a city prosecutor, where she gained experience handling contested matters, appearing in court, and advocating on behalf of her clients. These experiences reinforced her belief that behind every legal dispute is a person whose life is affected by its outcome.
Amy is particularly passionate about mental health and substance abuse awareness and advocacy. She recognizes that these issues are complex, deeply personal, and too often viewed without sufficient compassion or nuance. In family law, where they can intersect with divorce, custody, parenting, and major life transitions, Amy believes clients deserve an attorney who approaches difficult circumstances without judgment while providing candid advice and strong advocacy.
Amy brings empathy, persistence, and a strong sense of justice to her practice. She strives to ensure her clients feel heard, informed, and supported while helping them navigate difficult decisions and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Questions
1. What is your approach to client representation and communication?
I prioritize being accessible, prompt, and responsive. I know how stressful it can be to have an important question and feel like you are waiting for an answer, so I want my clients to know they can reach me when they need guidance. I also believe in being straightforward. Clients deserve to understand what is happening, what their options are, and what I recommend.
2. How would your friends, family, or former colleagues describe you?
They would probably describe me as fiercely loyal, curious, determined, and someone who will always stand up for what I believe is right. I’m also the person people tend to call when they need someone to listen, help solve a problem, or tell them the truth.
3. What value do you deliver to your clients?
I am genuinely invested in the people I represent. I pay attention to the details, ask questions, and try to understand what a successful outcome actually looks like for that client. I also bring a practical perspective and focus on finding solutions rather than creating conflict where it does not need to exist.
4. What is the most rewarding part of practicing law for you?
The most rewarding part of practicing law is being able to advocate for someone during a difficult or uncertain chapter of their life. I care deeply about fairness and making sure people are not defined by the most difficult circumstances they have faced. Being able to listen to someone’s story, make sure their voice is heard, and help them move toward a better chapter is incredibly meaningful to me.
5. What kinds of activities do you like to do to unwind outside the office?
Horseback riding has always been one of my favorite ways to unwind, and I love spending time with my dogs. I also enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, and supporting causes that are important to me.
